Martex Super Soft Fleece Full/Queen Blanket, Sand
Reviews : super Fast Shipping, Great blankets
I'm not associated with the seller or the product in any way but I was flabbergasted at the shipping speed on these blankets. At this great price I ordered about a dozen of these blankets (8 King size) on Tuesday Nov 25th, 2008. I received the blankets on Wednesday Nov 26th, 2008... less than 24 hours later. This is Thanksgiving week.
I used STANDARD shipping options without any fancy expediting. Nothing special. Although the blankets were shipped from Irving Texas about 55 miles away from the northern Dallas suburb I had them ship to..... I can tell you that it takes 3 days minimum to send any mail just to a suburb 5 miles away. Sometimes a week. UPS is even worse in this area. Even UPS is about 3-7 days just between towns a few miles apart (if UPS doesn't damage, steal or lose the item as they have habitually done for the past 20 years in this area). I have specifics about some of this... I'll save for another time.
When I received these blankets less than 24 hours after I ordered them. this is certainly not the norm we've come to expect from USPS or UPS in this area. They had to get those blankets boxed, labeled and in the hands of UPS in less than 5 hours to make this happen.
I can't say whether or not shipping will work out like that for anyone else since situations vary from place to place and other factors but I've never been so shocked in my life and I'm a long time Amazon shopper. I buy a lot of things. These blankets arrived so fast that I had to come back online and tell the rest of you about it. Maybe they are just thrilled to be receiving large orders in this down economy or maybe they had more time with less orders... or maybe they've really streamlined their shipping department. Whatever they did... this was IMPRESSIVE! (and I don't give out this kind of kudos very often).
The blankets are the most supersoft I have ever had and they are quite smooth in texture. I have another Fleece blanket from Sonoma (Kohls) which I love and it is super warm and light weight... but rougher texture than these new ones. We use the queen size blankets to wrap around us in the living room. We use the larger blankets on the beds, etc. I bought plenty of extra blankets this time.
These blankets are thick, super soft, smooth, lightweight and did not have any noxious odors when I took them out of the plastic zippered covers they were packed in. I have not washed them yet, so I will update that part in a day or two.
I always believe in getting a larger blanket than usual whether you are using it as a throw blanket or a bed blanket. Since I don't like the way Queen sized blankets and bed covers fit a Queen sized bed, I bought King sized. I would have bought Cal King if they had included that size. When I put blankets on a bed, I want the blankets to cover the occupants of the bed without having drafts of cold air under the edges of the blankets. By getting them a size bigger, the blankets actually cover the occupants while they are in the bed instead of leaving body parts exposed like most match sized measurements (queen size on Queen bed... etc).
I decided that I want long blankets of the sides of the beds and plenty to tuck in at the bottom instead of letting the industry decide the size of linens for my beds. I don't let them touch the floor, since that would invite insects to join you but I do like them just an inch or two above the floor level. It depends on your bed frame. Ours is wood frame with drawers, so the bed is higher than a plain metal frame.
I also do the same with bedspreads, duvets and comforters. I buy the larger sizes. To heck with the industry measurements. I would do the same with sheets if I could buy the top and fitted sheets separately.... but for flannel sheets, I could not find any on Amazon which were separate. Same with pillowcases. I use a combo of King and standard pillows on a Queen size bed (yes, they fit perfectly, side by side)... so I don't like to have the sheet companies decide which pillow sizes I must be using on my bed when I buy the sheets which they insist on including their predetermined size of pillowcases... then don't provide any options for me to buy matching cases of other sizes.
They are coming very close to my making my own sheets and pillowcases. I'm no Suzy homemaker but It isn't rocket science on making sheet sets for your beds. Anyone can do a set of sheets in a few hours and have them fit the way you like them. Male, female... even preteens could do this to fix up their rooms the way they like. A fun thing for your kids to do.... sheets, quilts, curtains, etc for their rooms. Quite easy with a sewing machine and a handy fabric store. It might give them a break from the computer and TV for a while and make a project they can be proud of what they have made. Might start a new fad like Harry Potter did to get kids reading again.
Be careful what fabrics you use and the types of dyes. Some of these Chinese, Indian and other middle eastern and foreign dyes are toxic, so by making your own sheets and curtains... you can control this better if you are careful about your fabric selections. They are using these dyes in clothes, books, magazines, etc. The dyes emit toxic fumes which can cause headaches, watery eyes, itching skin, rashes, nausea... and most of the time the consumer doesn't realize it. I didn't know it until I was reading a book which made my skin itch and gave me headaches. I had no idea it was the book. My brother had been a printer and told me about the dyes in the book... he was right. That's what it was. Same problem with imported clothes as well. So back to the basics. Maybe if we start making our own things like we did in the 60's and earlier (before we baby boomers became too busy as engineers, technicians, medical professionals, etc)... the industry will get the idea and stop using those toxic dyes.
SOFT!!!
My sons love these, as soon as I can I am getting one for my bed! These are sooo soft and wash great!

Pinzon Luxury 820-Gram Cotton Bath Towel, Espresso
Reviews : Luxurious Towels
I have not bought a towel for over $17+ before (that's considered a luxury to me). However, I bought the 820 gram bath towel & when it came, it was so plush and heavy. I will definitely look at buying another one.
wash first
Very thick towel! Needs to be washed first, since lots and lots of lint came out in the wash. Also, "brick" color would seem to denote on orange-ish hue, but this towel is more like lipstick red.
