Avoid. Lots better out there
The Short:
If you do not have one, and want one, go with Bodum.

If you have a press pot and you're shopping around; this is a poor series of design flaws.
Avoid it.

The Long:
I use press pots and have for years now. I am an avid tea, tisanes, and occasional coffee drinker. These do the job and do it well, even with the flaws I found this one usable for my purposes, but overall it is a failure and should be avoided.

It is a classic press pot, but this one is made for looks and not use. It even fails at that, in that it is average looking at best. It is almost an artistic design in irony, because it is a collection of flaws of press pot past.

The handle, base, holder are tightly attached to the carafe all one piece and have a kind of vulcanized coating to protect from heat. The handle has a twist at the top making it difficult to use your left hand if you are a lefty. The vulcanized coating has an odd aroma for a week or two as well. Not quite rubber, more like a child's toy that became a microwave oven experiment.

Cleanup is the worst, an absolute nightmare. The three part design is held in by one pin, you need to unscrew this small pin to get at and clean the filters. The pin is small, rounded and easily lost. Without it you no longer have a press pot but an expensive stein/carafe. What is more, removing it takes two agile hands. Any disability or if you're not good with tiny objects and you'll need third party help. The base does not separate easily from the carafe and the bottom collects everything easily, it seems made to do so. Moisture, dripping, grounds on the counter, it all gets in there and is on display through the carafe.

I could go on and on but the above is already enough to avoid it.


The second star is because it is functional. You can use it as a press pot. It does the job. Just don't expect this one to last the years like your trusty Bodum does. Did I mention avoid this product?

Never tasted such rich coffee
My brother who has traveled all over the world (and loves his coffee) and I tested this coffee press. I have never tasted coffee with such rich flavor before and was very impressed. I normally use a Senseo machine which I love, and which is very handy on a daily basis for me, but this press will be a nice alternative to use. I would imagine guests being very impressed with this interesting and different way of brewing coffee right at the table, especially when the flavor is so superb!

The unit itself is very attractive and appears "high end"; however, I gave it 4 stars because the handle appears somewhat flimsy and I wonder how long it is going to last. The rest of the unit is quite sturdy and heavy. The filter works well and effectively to separate the grounds from the coffee. One nice feature is that you can brew anywhere between 2 and 8 cups of coffee at a time.

I wouldn't use this everyday because of having to heat the water, grind the beans, wait for it to brew, and clean the unit, but it will definitely be in my arsenal of coffee units.

Coffee
The pods are easy to use and give a relatively uniform cup of coffee. Somewhat expensive but the foam is great! Wonderful for an easy, quick cup of coffee.

Weak and Bitter
terrible swill. I can't belive this is from the company that WANTS to sell you their coffee maker. Try the Millstone or if you can find it the Target brands instead.
